This Saturday, on Septemebr 13, Samman Association hosted a support group session, guided by Dr. Mayuri Jain, neuropsychologist at KEM Hospital. Around 35 participants came together, sharing experiences, insights, and encouragement on living with epilepsy.

Medication and Everyday Strength

One important learning that many had never heard before: when taking epilepsy medication, it helps to keep a 40-minute gap between doses. It’s the kind of practical advice that doesn’t always reach patients—but can make a difference.

We also celebrated something often overlooked: the courage it takes to stay consistent with treatment. As one participant beautifully put it, We all deserve to clap for ourselves just for taking our medicines every day and still living life with epilepsy—loud, strong, and with a bang.

Resilience and Positive Thinking

Dr. Mayuri Jain reminded us that cognitive challenges and emotional struggles are real, but they don’t define who we are. An obstacle doesn’t define you. What matters is how you build resilience and discover your strengths.

The group explored how to make epilepsy just background noise in our lives, while bringing our skills, passions, and talents to the foreground. After all, epilepsy is something you live with—it’s not your whole identity.

Another theme that resonated: flexibility of the mind. Resilience and positive thinking don’t come overnight—they take effort, practice, and patience. But the good news? With steady effort, we can all become stronger, more adaptable, and better equipped to thrive.

Living with epilepsy is not easy—but then again, nothing in life truly is. What matters is the courage to ask for help when you need it.

A practical takeaway was the reminder to carry an epilepsy identity card—just like we carry so many other cards: bank cards, idenity proof cards, etc. It’s one small step that can make a big difference in emergencies.

Takeaway from the Session

The most powerful message from this support group:

  • Resilience is built, not given.
  • Obstacles don’t define us—our response does.
  • We are stronger than we think.

Looking forward to hosting you at our next support group!
