To mark the weekend leading up to National Epilepsy Day, Samman hosted a gentle yoga and meditation session on 16 November 2025.

The session was led by Jyoti Katkar – Samman’s Committee Member and a caregiver of a child with epilepsy. She guided participants through a series of asanas and mindful breathing techniques. She encouraged everyone to move slowly, observe how the body responds, and maintain alignment rather than push for perfection. The flow included easy stretches, shoulder rolls, twists and forward bends. Her reminders to stay present with every inhale and exhale created an environment of calm attention.

After the yoga sequence, Jyoti introduced a short meditation practice that included pranayama and simple affirmations to support grounding and confidence. We then haas Samman member and Epilepsy advocate, Ashish Borgaonkar, who continued the session with a guided meditation accompanied by gentle music, allowing everyone to settle into silence and relaxation.

Participants shared that the session left them feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected. Several expressed interest in continuing such practices regularly, recognising the value mindfulness can bring to daily life, especially when navigating stress, triggers, or caregiving responsibilities.

As we move into National Epilepsy Day, this session served as a meaningful reminder: awareness isn’t only about information — it is also about care, community, and creating space to breathe.

Samman Association, the Mumbai Chapter of Indian Epilepsy Association, is dedicated to empowering people with epilepsy and their caregivers.
