Access to timely diagnosis, medical guidance and continued treatment can make a significant difference in the lives of people living with epilepsy. Yet, for many people in rural communities, accessing specialised epilepsy care remains a challenge.

As part of its continued efforts to bridge this gap, Samman Association organised a Rural Epilepsy Medical Camp in Dharampur, Gujarat, on 25 October 2026, in collaboration with the Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital team.

The camp provided medical consultations to 104 patients, with consultations conducted by Dr. Joy Desai, Dr. Natasha Tipnis Shah and Dr. Pradnya Gadgil. Alongside these consultations, 7 EEGs (Electroencephalograms) and 3 MRI scans were also completed, helping patients access important diagnostic services closer to their communities.

The camp also welcomed Dr. Janine Winterbottom, Consultant Epilepsy Nurse from the UK, as an observer. Her presence offered an opportunity to witness the work being undertaken on the ground and engage with the broader efforts to improve epilepsy care.

Another special addition was a young artist team led by Kash Odedra, who interacted with patients to understand and document their personal journeys with epilepsy. Through these conversations, the team sought to capture experiences that often remain unheard, bringing greater visibility to the lived realities of people affected by the condition.

We are deeply grateful to the Shrimad Rajchandra Hospital team for their invaluable collaboration and support in making this camp possible. Our dedicated volunteers, too, continue to play an essential role in ensuring that every camp reaches those who need it.

At Samman, we believe that access to epilepsy care should not be determined by where someone lives. Through our rural medical camps and collaborations with local healthcare teams, we continue working towards making diagnosis, treatment and support more accessible to communities across regions.

Every camp is another step towards ensuring that no one has to navigate epilepsy without the care and support they deserve.

Samman Association, the Mumbai Chapter of Indian Epilepsy Association, is dedicated to empowering people with epilepsy and their caregivers.
