Festivals are often about coming together, celebrating and sharing moments of joy. But for people living with epilepsy, the most meaningful part of such gatherings can sometimes be something much simpler: being among people who understand.

On 24 October 2026, Samman Association brought its members together at ADAPT, Bandra Reclamation, for a special Diwali Support Group Meeting. With around 50 participants, the afternoon was filled with conversations, laughter, festive cheer and the warmth of a community coming together.

Living with epilepsy can sometimes mean navigating experiences that are difficult to explain to others. The uncertainty, the questions, the emotional challenges and the feeling of being misunderstood can make the journey isolating.

This is where epilepsy support groups make a difference.

They create spaces where people can share their experiences without fear of judgement, find comfort in one another’s stories and realise that they are not alone. There is no pressure to explain everything or be understood through words alone. Sometimes, simply being in a room with people who get it is enough.

The Diwali gathering was a reminder of this very strength of community. Beyond the festivities, it was an opportunity to reconnect, celebrate one another and strengthen the bonds that make Samman’s support group so meaningful.

At Samman, we believe that living with epilepsy should never mean living in isolation. Through our regular support group meetings, we strive to create spaces rooted in empathy, acceptance and shared experiences.

Because sometimes, the greatest light we find is in knowing that we don’t have to navigate the journey alone.

Samman Association, the Mumbai Chapter of Indian Epilepsy Association, is dedicated to empowering people with epilepsy and their caregivers.
